Jim Lawrence is the manager of corporate affairs and communications for the Canadian Outdoor Heritage Alliance and the editor of their newsletter. He has been a deputy conservation officer in Quebec, a registered gun safety instructor, president of a fish & game club, founder of the Alliance of Fish & Game Clubs of Quebec, owner of a shooting preserve and hunting dog kennel and dog trainer.

Mr. Lawrence has written for every English language newspaper in Quebec, has been the editor of a number of community newspapers in Quebec and Ontario, currently a field editor for Outdoor Canada magazine, and a member of the Outdoor Writers of Ontario.

 
 
How political pressure cancelled Ontario's spring black bear hunt
In 1999 the Ontario Conservative government bowed to pressure from a small group of animal rights activists and a wealthy Ontario industrialist, and without any consultation with outdoors experts and overriding the opinion of government biologists, cancelled the annual spring black bear hunt.
