PETA Demonstrates Its Hypocrisy
In Attack On Animal Shelter

The blatant hypocrisy of the extreme animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) was evident in its recent attack on a local animal shelter in Portsmouth, Virginia. PETA filed 32 charges alleging "mistreatment of sick and injured dogs and kittens against the Portsmouth Humane Society and its executive director, Keith Jeter. PETA provided "secretly recorded" video as evidence of its allegations.

In a day-long trial before Judge Anthony J. Nicolo, PETA accused Jeter and the animal shelter he runs of failing to provide immediate emergency care for dogs and cats with upper respiratory infections, mange, eye infections, and broken bones. The court cleared Jeter and the shelter of all charges saying "Mr. Jeter does the best he can with what he's got."

PETA, a group that collects over $15 million in tax-free donations a year and has its headquarters in the Portsmouth, Virginia area could easily have provided the shelter with the financial support to make it a state of the art facility. PETA made no effort to provide the shelter with any funding, only negative publicity and costly court action.
