The Minus of Conservation:
Cattle Call

The Salt Lake Olympic Games Organising Committee is unable to satisfy the animal rights activists... why is that? And what's new?

In its program of cultural activities that accompanies the Winter Games, an old West Rodeo event is planned. However, in spite of "its promises to set an example for how this can be done properly, to the extent humanly possible", the president of the committee, Mitt Romney, met with the Utah Animal Rights Coalition. Among measures to be dropped is the calf-roping event, and yet, the animal rights activists still remain unsatisfied..! (Source: St. Petersburg Times, 2 December 2001)

Olympic Games Organising Committees have long been targets of animals rights activists and this will continue as long as fears of boycotts by zealots are in the air. These are people who trash laboratories and terrorize people. They push their agenda while trying to elevate animals toward personhood.

No one would argue against imposing penalties for cruelty to animals but animal rights campaigns should not advocate extremists' actions.
