Biography

Dr. Grete Hovelsrud-Broda is a Norwegian national. Ph.D. (1997) and M.A. (1992) in Social Anthropology from Brandeis; University in Massachusetts, USA. Research on the socio-economic aspects of seal hunting in East Greenland, with an emphasis of the impact on the anti-sealing controversy on these small communities. Also some research into whaling practices. Teaching experience from M.I.T., and Bentley College, Massachusetts. Marine Policy Fellow at the Marine Policy Center, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Massachusetts. Began as General Secretary in NAMMCO, Feb. 1999.
