Project: "International Sturgeon "

Aims: collaboration between scientists and experts of different countries in the field of conservation, protection and rehabilitation of sturgeon populations for the benefit of present and future human generations.

Urgent objectives of the project:

  • create a computer data-base of:
  • condition and status of sturgeon population over range States
  • new appropriate technologies on artificial reproduction of sturgeon populations and maintenance of living collections of rare and endangered sturgeon species
  • scientific and technical 'know-how" in the field of sturgeon conservation, protection and cultivation
  • ways of environment conditions improvement over the areas of sturgeon inhabitation
  • cryo-data banks on conservation of genetic material samples and its using for restoration of the natural populations

Conducting research work:

  • in the field of genetic monitoring, number dynamics and sturgeon ecology
  • on sturgeon genetics and conservation of its genetic diversity
  • in the field working out environmentally friendly appropriate biotechnologies of sturgeon cultivation for supplement

Publications:

  • information bulletins, recommendations, scientific and popular literature on different issues of sturgeon protection and cultivation
  • educational and popular audio and video materials about world scientific and practical "know-how" in sturgeon conservation and cultivation

Organization activity:

  • preparing, development and organization of conferences, symposia and working groups on the problems of conservation and unexhausted utilization of sturgeon populations in different areas
