Too many people know too little about the world's whales and cultures whose histories are tied to marine mammals. For those who have spent their lives working to conserve wild places and wild creatures this is chilling news. In order to make sound management decisions on whales or any wildlife, the public, the press and policy-makers must start with sound information. Today that information is woefully lacking and the public's confusion is completely understandable given the wealth of misinformation available.
